Damascus Road & the Environment
We try to ensure that the lighting we supply uses the most efficient equipment available for the task, and that all of the support activities connected with getting the lighting up and running are as efficient and environmentally friendly as we can achieve.
For lighting, this means:
- Having the widest possible range of efficient equipment available, so that we have the right tools for each task, and other customers can choose the products that best fit their requirements.
- Working our equipment hard: the greatest environmental impact for most products comes during their manufacture. As a rental company our aim is to constantly re-use equipment, minimising the need to purchase new gear. Our staff work to keep our equipment in peak condition, meaning that it can continue to be used for many years (the oldest lantern in our rental stock is 35 years old, and still in demand!)
- Introducing new, more efficient equipment as it becomes available: The Source Four is now the mainstay of our rental equipment, replacing many older, higher-wattage, less efficient lanterns.
- Introducing new, more efficient technologies as they become available: we have built up a small stock of LED lighting equipment over the last few years. LED equipment has much lower energy requirements than conventional lighting, as well as lower consumable requirements (colour and lamps). While some LED units are not yet suitable for all lighting applications, they are perfect for events, parties, permanent displays and productions where the lighting is often running for long periods of time and so low power consumption offers even greater benefits.
- Encouraging all of our customers to use the equipment they rent from us in the most efficient manner - even if that just means turning it off when it's not being used.
For the activities around lighting this means:
- Making our office activities as efficient as possible: minimising paper use, recycling paper, using energy as efficiently as possible by, for example, turning off computers and printers when not in use, and turning on general lighting and heating only when staff are on the premises.
- Recycling packaging from our suppliers, and encouraging them to minimise their packaging.
- Minimising the packing we use, and using recyclable packaging where possible.
- Using filtered tap water rather than bottled water for staff drinking water.
- Using electronic distribution - email and the web - for more of the information that we distribute to customers, including making and receiving payments electronically.
- Working to improve the energy efficiency of our buildings and their services.
- Scheduling our transport runs to take the most efficient routes, and ensuring that the minimum number of transport runs are made.
Those responsible for businesses, shops, clubs, churches & other places where employees or the public have access are required by law to ensure they are safe. All portable electrical appliances must be tested for safety. Our affordable PAT testing keeps you legal & safe.
We can provide all the equipment and expertise to bring the big screen experience to your event or venue! We can even handle the rights for any commercial films you wish to show, and can arrange on-screen advertising and show-reels.
